Port of Sassnitz offers best conditions in order to serve as the port for the offshore industry. Through its location directly at the open sea there is no obligation for channel navigation or pilot services. Germany’s easternmost deep-water port has available water depths of 10.50 m which makes it accessible to all ship classes which operate in the Baltic Sea. Moreover, berths 8 and 9 facilitate also the handling of larger sea vessels in the conventional transport sector as well as special offshore water vessels.
The business park at the port offers excellent conditions for companies of all kinds and sizes. Especially, industries that are affine to ports and the offshore industry benefit from the port’s infrastructure. Altogether, approx. 60 hectares are available for the manufacturing of turbine components, the installation of windfarms and maintenance/repair works.
Moreover, Port of Sassnitz continuously invests into the tailored development of the location to suit the market needs. For example, the further extension of infrastructure (heavy duty platform, storage areas) is envisaged.
Located next to the Port of Sassnitz (within a distance of 54 nautical miles) several windfarms are planned totalling a potential capacity of 5.000 MW (August 2009). Moreover, since 2009 the Windfarm Baltic I, located offshore the coast of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, is under construction.
